Bringing the Fun Back to Handgun Practice: Big Bores, DA Targets, and the Ultradot Advantage

At Ultradot, we’re always excited to hear from shooters in the field—especially when our optics help bring a little extra precision (and a lot more fun) to a day at the range. In his latest write-up on handgunhuntingafield, Roy Yeager shares his experience with DA Targets and how they’ve changed the way he trains with both revolvers and semi-autos. And right in the mix? His custom 10MM Glock topped with our Ultradot Matchdot II Green.

Roy’s mission was simple: find a way to make practice more enjoyable and effective. While traditional paper targets are great for measuring group sizes, they’re not exactly fun. And steel targets, while satisfying, come with splashback risks. Enter DA Targets—self-healing polymer targets that change color on impact and reset within minutes. They’re reusable, reactive, and, best of all, safe to shoot even at close range.

But the part we loved most? Roy’s setup with the Matchdot II Green.

Mounted in Carver mounts, Roy ran his 10MM with our sight’s 2 MOA dot reticle to test precision shooting on a reactive target. His verdict: “Pretty simple.” After using the color change from a previous shot as a reference, he dialed in elevation with the Matchdot II’s quick-adjust knob and stacked rounds in a tight group. Fast, intuitive, and confidence-building—everything a red dot should be.

“When you can see exactly where you are hitting it is easy to perfect technique… I can see this being a great teaching aid for law enforcement agencies and any shooter for that matter.” – Roy Yeager

Whether you’re dialing in a predator gun, preparing for competition, or just making plinking more fun, Roy’s post is a great reminder of what makes shooting satisfying: instant feedback, high-quality tools, and a little experimentation.
