Back in the Game: Chris Rhodes Returns to USPSA with the Ultradot Prime XT

Last weekend, Chris Rhodes stepped back onto the USPSA stage for the first time in nearly a decade. The match, held in Spearfish, South Dakota on April 5, was a Level 1 USPSA event with roughly 40 competitors running through 6 fast-paced stages filled with both steel and paper targets.

Chris ran the match using a Walther PDP Match paired with the Ultradot Prime XT, ZRTS 140mm 22-round mag extensions, and a full Black Scorpion Gear rig (holster, belt, and pouches). His performance was solid, especially after such a long hiatus—finishing 12th overall across all divisions.

“The match went well,” Chris said. “I can’t sprint like I used to—my knees won’t let me slam on the brakes, so I just do a quick step or trot. But the gear ran great, and the Prime XT held up beautifully.”

What’s Next? Chris is staying busy this month with matches nearly every weekend:

  • April 13–14: NRA Action Pistol in Aurora, CO (sanctioned)

  • April 20–21: NRA Action Pistol in Cheyenne, WY (weather dependent)

  • April 27–28: Back to Spearfish, SD for another USPSA match

In Action Pistol, Chris is using a Spohr revolver, still running the Ultradot Prime XT. His training has been promising—recently completing the entire Practical Event course in practice and dropping only 2 shots outside the 10-ring. The only part he hasn’t been able to practice? The mover. “We’ll see how that goes,” he said with a grin.

Gear Talk and the Importance of Approachability Beyond competing, Chris is focused on being approachable—especially for new shooters. “Being a helpful, approachable ‘pro shooter’ isn’t the norm, but that’s what I’m trying to be,” he said. “It’s opened a lot of dialogue about gear—including the Ultradot Prime XT.”

When it comes to optics, Chris is clear about why the Prime XT stands out:
“The biggest gain over Trijicon is the glass quality and brightness adjustments. That down-the-sights view is going to help sell this optic.”

Stay tuned—we’ll be following Chris throughout the season as he puts the Prime XT through its paces on both USPSA and Action Pistol courses. Big thanks to Chris for the updates and insights!
